La dystrophine est essentielle pour la sant\u00e9 des muscles : elle aide \u00e0 pr\u00e9venir leur usure caus\u00e9e par les mouvements. \u00c0 cause des mutations du g\u00e8ne DMD, le corps fabrique moins de dystrophine. Sans cette prot\u00e9ine, les muscles risquent de s\u2019endommager avec le temps et d\u2019\u00eatre remplac\u00e9s par du tissu cicatriciel (fibrose) et de la graisse. Ceci entra\u00eene une perte et une faiblesse musculaires.<\/p>\n<p>Le givinostat inhibe des enzymes, appel\u00e9es histones d\u00e9sac\u00e9tylases (HDAC), qui diminuent l\u2019activit\u00e9 des g\u00e8nes et peuvent affecter la capacit\u00e9 des cellules musculaires \u00e0 s\u2019autor\u00e9parer (se r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer).
